I'm currently a first year student at University and am having a lot of difficulty choosing a major. All throughout high school I never really had any solid ideas on what I wanted to study, and always just sort of assumed I would figure it all out once I got to college. Well now I'm nearly at the end of my first year and still don't know which direction to take. I've found a few things that I enjoy studying about, but nothing in particular that I'm really passionate about. Entering the year I was an undecided major, but have since picked one just to make the course selecting process go smoother. I know that it's okay to switch your major and that most students do at some point, but I'd still like to have at least some plans for my future. So far the majors that I am considering are:
- Philosophy
- English
- Political Science
- Economics
- History
If anybody has any first hand experience with these majors I would greatly appreciate any advice. Especially about possible career paths after I get my degree. I know a lot of my choices aren't really the toughest classes to choose, but I've never really been strong in science, or liked it very much, so I pretty much want to avoid all of those options.
That's really good classes to have during your first year at university! Is ur classes a semester or quarter?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll eventually find what you're really good at so you'll able to decide what major to study.
Really good majors there. Good luck at University!
ReplyDeleteWell I cant help you there. If you were female on the other hand I might recommend you go Mack. Most women who have had the pleasure would tell you "once you go Major Mack, you'll never go back".
ReplyDeleteAll garbage Majors - Enjoy you fail degree. Sorry for the honesty.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't garbage majors, Mike. They could be useful in some facets of life, and helpful if he's going for Law or a social career.
ReplyDeleteI would like to suggest a look at a technological direction, something more science-oriented. They can be very, very handy in a wide variety of careers, some of which are definitely going to come into use.
I would roll with history
ReplyDeleteGo with your gut instinct. Pointless ending up doing something you will defo not like.
ReplyDeletechoose a science! easiest one possible if you're bad. just don't go in humanities and waste your life.
ReplyDeleteEconomics wouldn't be too horrible, at least then you could do something related to your degree after university.
ReplyDeletego with what you WANT and the money will follow.
ReplyDeleteThis offer does not apply to any liberal arts
ALWAYS consider the job outlook. My recommendation: go into numbers!!

easy, think about what you LIKE to do. i tried to get into the field that made a lot of money, instead of what I wanted, and I'm not happy.
ReplyDeleteChoose the one that has jobs in future.
ReplyDeletei wish this post existed to me when i started college haha
ReplyDeleteI'm a student of English and I have to choose another area of studies soon. I can choose between pretty much any of the humanitary subjects - philosophy, danish, litterature science, all of these subjects. NONE of them interest me the least, but I have to choose one and study it for two and a half years if I want my education to be worth anything.
ReplyDeleteShitsux
All are good subjects, but Economics as far as I know has a great career path.
ReplyDeleteWell it depends on how you want to live you life. Making a lot of money or having a some free time. I would choose Economics, unfortunately money rules the world!
ReplyDeleteInteresting article. I can see it helping other guys in the future.
ReplyDeleteEnglish or Philosophy :)
ReplyDeletegood luck phulosophy should be great
ReplyDeleteI am having the same problem now! Best to wait till your positive.
ReplyDeleteI don't really know about any of those, best of luck with whatever you chose!
ReplyDeleteMy vote's would be for economics or philosophy. Those are the only two that really interest me, but I have no idea what you would do with a philosophy degree.
ReplyDeletewell, economics is good. I'd go for computer sciences though. but its up to you m8, goodluck!
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to go into philosophy, make sure you have something like an Ethics & Public Policy emphasis. It turns a rather useless degree (unless you're going to law school) into a degree that can open doors in @ HR at almost any company.
ReplyDelete+ Followed, if you need more info on how to work the philosophy degree, hit me up.
economics is a winner
ReplyDeleteHey man, go with computer sciences, it's super effective seen as how everything is going to digital and moving away from analog. Lots of new jobs coming up man, even in this shitty economy.
ReplyDeletei gotta make up my mind now as i go to university. looking forward to next post man
